City of Tucson

Mark your calendars for Borderlands Theater’s “Art is Vital” fiesta on July 27th. The event will kick off with a concert reading of “Anita”, a new musical about the power of joy to create a sense of home and belonging. The experience will then spill out into the courtyard of Tucson’s Berger Performing Arts Center with live music, heritage food booths, art exhibits, and interactive activities promoting the connection between arts participation and personal and collective wellbeing. Tucson Mayor Regina Romero will announce the winners of the “Art is Vital” art contest and speak on the critical role of arts and culture to the future of Tucson. The event runs on Saturday, July 27th from 6 to 10 pm.

  • For 38 years Borderlands Theater has enriched Southern Arizona providing a home for Latiné and Indigenous theater makers and uplifting the lived experiences of the communities of the Sonoran Desert region. One Nation/One Project has provided a springboard for a narrative strategy campaign working in tandem with Tucson Mayor Regina Romero's "Somos Uno" arts, culture, and heritage initiative. Its goal is to shift public perceptions about the role the arts play in wellbeing, social cohesion and community development; that the arts truly are for every body and that artists play a pivotal role in maintaining healthy communities. Somos Uno is about creating policies, shifting public funds, and mobilizing people around making the arts and heritage sectors integral to building healthy, prosperous communities in Tucson. ONOP presents an opportunity to build a coalition of artists working to sustainably make art and improve everyone's standard of living.
